Tiger beetle, 160%. These fellows are very alert and quick to run or fly. Very difficult to get close to one.

Yes they are very fast, so I normally use a telephoto to reach to them... some past examples below

Nice shot! Don’t forget they are also predators, so therefore beneficial insects! Don’t smoosh them!

The larvae down in their vertical tunnels are also voracious predators. Their physical design and method for capturing other insects is really interesting, an evolutionary development comparable to ant lions.

Two very small insects from a few days ago. The spotted beetle is no more than 4mm long so the posted image is a deep crop.

Assorted local insects. It's getting much more difficult to locate insects to photograph. After they cleared several meadows in a local wildlife area and planted some kind of grass I've never seen growing there, for all practical purposes the insects were gone.
