My post of this milkweed beetle seems to have disappeared, so I'll repost. Can almost always find several of these when I go out looking for insects.

I don't remember seeing that before Walt.

Another reason for posting photos here, I can see if I have any in my yard or my ramblings around my area.

If you have milkweeds growing somewhere, good chance there will be both milkweed beetles and some milkweed bugs. (insect below is neither of these, however),

I don't have milkweed growing here.......yet. I have purchased some milkweed seed balls in hopes of getting some started here. Can't plant them until fall though. I assume they'll winter over and sprout in the spring. Though we have mild winters here, and I'm not sure they'll even grow in my area. I'm going to try them anyway.

No milkweeds even in the waste places (vacant lots, fields, roadsides)? They're very common here, several species.

I've never seen any here. Living in the city has it's disadvantages... no vacant lots, roadsides are mowed short, and no fields here either.

Large milkweed bugs allowed to multiply unchecked on Butterfly Weed really take a toll on the plant.

On July 20th, there were two couples mating, which I posted earlier. Sorry for the IQ, it was taken hand held with a non-macro lens, and I'm shaky.

Here is the result, taken August 13th. It is processed from one of the four images from a RAW pixel shift image:

on Flickr

Here is the same image, cropped towards the end of the pod:

on Flickr

Here is a thread with a short series of crops of the image above (including PS artifacts) to illustrate how to work with one of the four image in the RAW PS file when artifacts occur.

Cross posted to the *Macro* Lens Club.
