Nice shot of the ants Roy, thanks for sharing.

I've one. It seems that's all I'm getting lately is flies and ants, and only one a day.

Beautiful Demoiselle (that's what it's called, not my description, though that would be apt enough) - K-3 + Pentax-F 100mm 1:2.8 macro

Nice. We have a similar species here. The Jewelwing damselflies are breathtaking. Every couple of years they invade our garden, and can usually be found along the creek through town. They're tough to miss.

true enough - but not always easy to photograph - unless you have the luxury of them visiting your garden I had to climb down into the stream (clear water and no deeper than calf depth, so no hardship on a hot sunny day ) to get these - but 100% worth it - especially as that's what I went looking for.

Even with them in the garden, it seems like the camera doesn't like to focus on them. I have a lot of blurry shots. Maybe it's their irridescence against the green background? Granted, I'm better at that kind of photography now... Maybe we'll see them again this year. When they're in the yard, it's never a single one, they seem to gather in groups.

I photograph at Fermilab Natural Areas, and there's an Odonata guy there who wades into the marshy areas. I pretty much stay in the prairies to photograph bees etc, so we tend to see different critters...

I'm glad it's not just me! - certain types of insect seem to have an anti-AF coating - I wonder if it's something about AF systems in general or a Pentax speciality - maybe we'll have to put it to the forum in general - plenty of people use other systems

AF is mostly contrast, and some insects blend very well with their backgrounds. Plus, those Jewelwings are dark, shiny, and iridescent. I think that's a triple-play. I really hope we see them this year, because I have not had the chance to get photos with this K3II and the ring flash.

Many dragonflies perched in the field I need to quickly switch to MF for shots. The camera really can't figure out what I'm looking at. Stripy brown and green against stripy brown and green background...

Roaches are not the most popular insect, but they've been successful for several hundred million years. For that, we should look up to them.
