I had to climb down into the stream (clear water and no deeper than calf depth, so no hardship on a hot sunny day
) to get these - but 100% worth it - especially as that's what I went looking for.
Even with them in the garden, it seems like the camera doesn't like to focus on them. I have a lot of blurry shots. Maybe it's their irridescence against the green background? Granted, I'm better at that kind of photography now... Maybe we'll see them again this year. When they're in the yard, it's never a single one, they seem to gather in groups.
I photograph at Fermilab Natural Areas, and there's an Odonata guy there who wades into the marshy areas. I pretty much stay in the prairies to photograph bees etc, so we tend to see different critters...
