Yeah, it was started by someone else before I found it, and started mine. And they have different rules in Noel's thread, he doesn't care what size photos are uploaded and on mine I asked for photos to not be any larger than 1024 on the long side.

Plus too many would overlap. Some who post here, also post there. Best to leave them as is, Tim.

Fair enough!Although it seems a fairly arbitrary distinction.Never know which thread to post in and may well have posted pics too big for your thread, apologies if I have.

I don't think I had a pixel count when I was on Photobucket so I subscribed to both these threads but only posted on the other one. I still do despite going over to Flickr, which shows you the number of pixels on each side. None of the other threads I visit have pixel limitations - I just don't want the added complication.

I had complaints about the size of a photo posted mostly because of bandwidth with phones so I limited the size. Not all of us have large monitors either, in fact there is a size limit in PYP too if you care to read the instructions Adam compiled when he made that forum.

QuoteQuote:
Image Sizing
The maximum embedded image width and height are by default constrained to 1024 pixels.
But he also said,
QuoteQuote:
To change these defaults or to disable the resizing system, visit your profile options.
And this:
QuoteQuote:
We kindly ask that your embedded photos do not exceed 1Mb in file size to speed up loading.

jacamar, the fact that I post smaller photos is my preference, but if you want to see a larger photo of mine, just click on it. The largest version is available in my Flickr. In fact the original size is on my Flickr..

Two different exposure (one with a Led light source from below) of this Spanworm

the last one with LED reveals a bit more the details of the scales (MUST BE SEEN FULL SCREEN!)

This lot were all taken with my Kinotel + extension set-up, illuminated with the onboard flash with Pringles tin extender/diffuser.

First off we have an unfortunate leafhopper that seems to have some sort of fungal infection.

Working with insects that are so small, it's often difficult to tell what exactly I'm shooting. Shooting at night under porch-light with a lens that has no auto aperture doesn't help either, but it's all part of the fun, challenge and excitement. Replay brings surprises. Here are two that were such surprises. Both are cropped in a bit more than I usually do. I was pleased to be able to record their compound eyes considering I couldn't see their eyes at all when I was shooting! I haven't consulted the guidebook I've got out of the library (Kaufman field guide to insects of North America) to see if these are juvenile stages of insects that will grow to be larger adults or if this is as big as they're going to get.

At some point I'll probably buy an insect guide book. The above mentioned Kaufman book is the only one our library has. Any favourites or suggestions?

The third one looks like an aphid of some kind, and with those wings probably an adult.

Mostly a spider, but the cranefly was still alive when I started taking pictures of this pair.

No, I think it is wax that they secrete for protection...

Had a break in Spain and saw this, nice colour. Luckily I had the 55-300mm DAL with me, never got close enough to a Dragonfly to use a macro lens. Slightly cropped.

Grasshopper, reliable insect for pictures, big and very common, but the sight of a camera makes them nervous and a little jumpy/
