This beetle was running across the desert, pretty much impossible to get into focus, so I picked him up, but he was not happy.

WPRESTO looks like a Carabus nemorali, It has a pretty disgusting eating habits. Give it a worm, they will fight like Tarzan and a crocodile

True. I put him/her down and off it went, too fast and small to be captured by photo abilities.

Here's a desert grasshopper photographed about the same time as the beetle. Like most grasshoppers, it sat still and could be approach - carefully, slowly, and not too close.

Not pursuing a bug in the desert, but this little beetle, my first insect of 2018, led me a merry chase on my living room couch! Took many shots without really coming up with much with which I was happy. These little critters sure can move! I'm looking forward to heading outdoors to track down lethargic, early morning insects. Of course, I'm going to be a lethargic, early morning photographer...

Same insect, same couch. This one looks like a larger creature glimpsed from a distance, through mist...

An alien invader approaching through a mist generated by their ship to hide them from their intended victims. Creepy! Must look and sweep with my hands before I sit down.

I hadn't seen the young katydid in 3 weeks. Saw it again last night. You can tell how hard they are to see. The first pic is 3 weeks ago and the second one is last night.

This one was in the yard just now.

Had you intended to photograph what looks like a leaf hopper at lower right in the first image?

Yep, it's there. If you blow it up in flickr you can see it better. It's tiny but it's there.

I'm glad you can't see caterpillars, they chewed up too much.

Had one image left of this "flamboyant flowering beetle." It was in a display.

Once I found it I can see it now. It goes to show their ability to hide from potential predators.
