Checkerspot from this morning. I'm sure I've posted other images of this ubiquitous butterfly, but there it was, and we have a goal to reach for posts (not a goal post, rather a post goal.)

Life hanging by a slender thread. These caterpillars, unexpected by me, were working their way up. When I first spied them they were a little below eye level, By the time I moved on they were about 18 inches above my head.

some very nice damselflies. I can't see any water mites on the torso. well done.
Thanks! Although I've seen mites on damselflies, they seem much more common on bumblebees - at least around here.

Outstanding! You make me hesitate to post my own images.
Thanks! But please don't let me stop you!

Heartily concur. It should be BOOM!
Thank you! Flickr seems to agree too, as The Algorithm has chosen the metallic red damsel for Explore today.

Great shot! If we were to not post photos of any species we've photographed before, most of us would rapidly run out of images! But I agree that it's nice when you run into a new species.

Thank you so much, but I'll take no credit for being "brilliant." It was a photo-op that was dangling in front of my face. What was tricky was getting them in focus. I was using a SIgma 150mm macro mounted on an MFT body, so no AF, strictly MF. The caterpillars were hanging by the most gossamer threads you can imaging, so the slightest breeze, and there was a bit, would send them swaying five or six inches = far out of the plane of focus. The shot posted was the only one out of maybe 12 to 15 that was anything near acceptable = shotgun approach, click the shutter release enough and you might get something.

Not much to see out there today. I drip sweat after 10 minutes from the heat so not waiting around. I had a chance at a butterfly. I tried to get closer and it flew off in the shot. caught a blurred wing.

I've been waiting to shoot an ant swarm (is that the right term?) for quite a while. This is the first I've come across in a while where my gear has been readily available to record it.
