I posted a slightly different image of this swallowtail earlier this afternoon on the other insect thread.

I introduced some rose leaf eating bugs to my resident crab spider but he has shown little interest. I do have a yellow bottomed fly that appears to be laying eggs though!

Ants, accidentally captured when photographing a bird of paradise flower which draws photographers the same way it attracts ants.

Today I met what I think might be the most charismatic insect in the world. At least - I fell in love with it instantly. Hummingbird hawk-moth - record numbers in Denmark this year due to the hot summer, but my very first encounter ever.

Thanks Noel - it was very cooperative really, hovered for quite a long time and wasn't very camera shy. My biggest problem was the weather - after weeks of drought it had to turn drizzly just after the moth turned up, and it disappeared completely the moment the rainclouds rolled in. But I stuck around and eventuelly got around 10 minutes of sunshine with me shooting wildly while it lasted!

Small black beetle with yellowing legs*, probably the most common form I see. Here they are called "darkling beetles" (Tenebrionidae) and there seems to be at least one under every bit of bark, small twig, and even rock that I turn over.

*Some have black legs

Yes, that one was found in the yard here, and have seen it many times, especially when the lawn is mowed.
