I think this is a fly of some kind that mimics a wasp.

Looks like a hover fly. Nice shot.

Yes it does, but hover flies I know of tend to perch with their wings out to the side, not folded over their abdomen. The posture here is more typical of a wasp, which made/makes me hesitate with an ID.

Not a wasp. There are a LOT of flies. Bug Guide should be of some help, at least with a family.

Yes. If you note the original post with the image, I finally decided it was a fly that mimics a wasp*, down to having eyes set a bit farther apart, and a resting wing posture that is wasp-like rather than overfly-like, although I do not think this is a species of hover fly.

*because I think I can make out the haltere on the near side.

A Wasp eating a Spider (I think it was a Huntsman) while a Crab Spider contemplates.....probably suicide.

It looks just like hover flies we have here, and I've seen them rest their wings like that on occasion.
