I've been looking at it still seems like a robber fly to me. diogmites neoternatus is my guess. Here is another view.
The second image, seen on my big monitor, seems to have too many segments on the antennae (although they are hard too see).
Image below is a robber fly of the type I'm accustomed to seeing hereabouts. The antennae are very small, but they are plumose.

This is a very large robber fly photographed out in Utah. In the crop, although the focus is not perfect, you can see the three-segmented antennae that are supposed to be diagnostic of robber flies.

The stretching bug (looks like an assassin bug), is cool. Good capture of behavior as well as the insect itself.

That stretching bug is a little assassin yes. Like an orangutan in my rosemary. that leaf is 3cm long.

So that fly were not sure on , the pictures were sent here. A Community for Naturalists · iNaturalist.org Its a great world wide data base. When I find uncommon bugs I put them here. I might also try whatbugisthis both are interesting sites.

Partial cross post from Projector Lens Club

First live fire excersize with one of my projector lenses. This one is the Paillard Bolex Hi-Fi 20mm F1.3. It's a lot brighter than many of my other homebrew macro kluges, but depth of field (f1.3!?) is even less than I'm used to. Very tricky to use. These are all hand held, with built in flash dialed down to 1/64 or 1/128 power. Used without any extension (apart from that provided by the rings, adapter and registration distance). With such a short focal length, it wouldn't take much extension to end up with the point of focus being inside the lens.

This is very different from my usual approach, and, for me, a lot more challenging. Getting the right detals in focus (when there's so little in focus at all) is tough. The impressionistic results are interesting and novel, at least to me. I'll be trying some more projector lenses in the near future. I'll post shots here if I use them on bugs!

Here's details of the the lens inscription (after addition of stepping ring used for mounting):

And on the camera. 49mm reverse adapter and another stepping ring do the trick.

Some results.

Killer in soft focus.

Some postage stamp-sized crops of a Hummingbird Moth (K-3 & DA 300/4). Up close, they look like flying crayfish.

Time to bump this back to the top of the page. I changed my lens. Put on the A 50mm and Raynox DCR-250. I'm working on building a new snoot for the shorter lenses. The one I have now is too long and tends to over shoot with the AF201FG flash. On this shot, I used the onboard with a minus 3 compensation.

I call it "What big eyes you have"

Nice images I really like the 2nd. The bokeh creates great separation.
