I posted several images of two butterfly in flight, a mating ritual. One or the other did land long enough for a portrait.

This painted lady settled on our lawn, which is a little more stable than flowers waving in the breeze, so I was able to sneak up for a nice solid close-up at only 1/20 sec. with the K-3 and F 100:2.8 macro

Did not get to see many insects during my visit to Port Elizabeth recently. In Addo I saw only one of these flightless Dung Beetles. Come summer, they will be there in abundance

This shield bug was rather fast, and restless.

And this one was quick to fly off at my approach

Did you know these beetles have been around since the days of the dinosaurs? But those species walked to the feet of a different dunger.

Couple more insects from recent early morning outings. BTW: Several images I posted have insects of goldenrod, and that plant has been a difficult subject. The flowers tend to smear and blend into a featureless yellow mass. The image below with a moth is about the best rendering of goldenrod flowers I've captured.

Goldenrod attracts so many but any breeze at all leads to motion blur. They sway beautifully, in just the wrong way for photography!
Scape moths are cool. Hard to miss.

I took about 20 images of a bug (=true bug, Hemiptera) atop a flower stalk the other day, all worthless because of wind-induced sway. I always get a higher % keepers if I use flash, but those inky black backgrounds . . . . The dark moth definitely stood out against the bright yellow goldenrod.

It's been great year for flowers and fruits, the pollinators are plentiful.
