I took about 20 images of a bug (=true bug, Hemiptera) atop a flower stalk the other day, all worthless because of wind-induced sway. I always get a higher % keepers if I use flash, but those inky black backgrounds . . . . The dark moth definitely stood out against the bright yellow goldenrod.
But once in a while you nail it. Inky background, no blur, cooperative subject and the unnoticed but gorgeous goldenrod.

At last weekend's prairie walk I introduced people to the dogbane beetle. A little girl fell in love as it crawled up her hand to fly off. It's hard to comprehend how beautiful that prismatic green is.

One of the ubiquitous crab spiders subduing a drone fly. I only noticed by the sound of the drone fly trying to escape. These crab spiders change colors from white to yellow depending on the flowers they're hunting on. It takes a couple of days to accomplish, but it's really effective.

Spilomyia longicornis on Rattlesnake Master. This is a big syrphid fly, note the striped/spotted eyes! This is a female. There's a little subject motion blur in the photos, but I'll take them.

Not sure what it is, but it's hanging from some daisies.

Looks like a moth trying to mimic something that stings, but not doing well at it.
Big caterpillar, also a moth of some kind (see the "horn" at its back end cut off at the edge of the frame to the right), but as this was taken in South America don't try to pin down the species. Scan from a chrome.

A true bug (Hemiptera) on a flower stalk that was swaying impossibly. One of two or three out of score or more of images that was not hopelessly blurred or out of focus. And yes, there is a second bug hiding just below

odd, looks like a wasp, but I haven't known wasps to suck nectar - thought they were carnivorous.
