I don't know the insect in the first image, the second is another shot of that dog bane beetle.

Just got a new ring light for macro. Tried it out on a butterfly.

Scan from a chrome. Even in the Film Era I was chasing after bugs. Notice the cloth-like texture on the dark underside of the leaf. That's one of the exasperating artifacts that appears in scans. Viewing the slide either with a slide viewer or projected on a screen, no such texture would be visible.

A little hoverfly on a pink (scan) and a green leafhopper, one of the most common species I see (NOT a scan).

I tried and failed to identify this fly. It seems to be eating another insect. Kind of hard to see but there's another bug under it. I thought the red smear was appropriate given the carnivorous act taking place.

Rhinoceros beetle. I would have preferred to bring this fellow home, clean off the leaf litter and photograph it with a proper macro lens, but these fellows are uncommon to rare, so I thought it better to leave him where I found him and just go with these mediocre shots taken with a tiny-sensor SPPS.

You guys, thanks for keeping this thread alive. I appreciate it.

My brother continues to kill the paper wasps and the lubber grasshoppers.
