That was taken on Tasmania. I don't know about their distribution, but they could be confined (endemic) to the island.

Very similar big beetles, but ours is very dark colored and is commonly called a "June bug" as they are common about that time of year then gone.

Great shot. I have never seen an ant like this on the mainland so may be only found in tassie.

Here is a fly that was sitting on my smoker and let me get close. I think he had inhaled too much.
