This is why they are an infestation.It looks like mites or fungus are finding them these days.


Found out these white spots are indeed mites introduced to combat the infestation.
The white "mites" on your Japanese Beetles ....
These are the eggs of the imported and deliberately introduced parasitoid fly, Istocheta aldrichi, which is the natural enemy of the Japanese Beetle in Japan. See also http://bugguide.net/node/view/5387 .
