What reasoning for this choice? I think i will start. I used sugar water but not thick enough. Then I used honey but thought a bee with different honey might be attacked. Went to corn syrup. Molasses has nutrients. I use it to flavor my ginger beer.
I guess you find it thick and with nutrients. But maybe also no less bright than the subject?
I should have responded sooner. I used molasses because there was some in the kitchen. No honey on hand, There was maple syrup, but I thought the molasses would have a better viscosity.

Another dragonfly, a male four-spotted chaser / skimmer, easily identified by the spots in the middle of front edge of the wings

Thank you K2 2 K50.

Here are two other images from that outing, although IMHO the one posted above was the best of the lot.

FYI: Not a beetle, a leaf hopper in the Heteroptera (beetles are in the Coleoptera). The genus is Graphocephala with many different species in the USA and Canada. It is sometimes called the "candy stripe leaf hopper." Their bright colors make them conspicuous and therefore one of the easiest leaf hoppers to spot. Other leaf hoppers are green and look like leaves. I have photos of one that imitates a thorn.

Cicada Shell. Saw the owner, but did not have time in the evening to shoot, so got this the next day.
