Japanese Beetle, FYI.

Another predator, the Great Spreadwing Damselfly. This is a female, recently emerged I think.

A parasite, the Tiger Bee Fly - which parasitizes Xylocopa Carpenter Bee nests. That's why it was on our deck...

And there are plenty of Penstemon blossoms to share, like this Bombus bimaculatus and Katydid nymph. Or is that a grasshopper?

Some kind of Giant Mantis, Rietvlei Nature Reserve. I don't think these are native to South Africa, though this is the 2nd time I have seen one of these. About the length of my hand.

The eyes and antenna are interesting. You might consider posting your finds on inaturalist. I just looked at South Africa and there are few contributors.

Thank you, I have followed your suggestion, now I'll wait and see!

This fellow ended up in my car and I had to coax it out.

Scans from other chromes taken at the same time have been posted, probably years ago. This one had no PP done so this is its first appearance on PF. Scan from a chrome, probably taken with my LX and SMCA 200mm macro
