based on the equipment and appearance of that dust, I would guess lime.

Cows, ducks, and a horse. There is virtually no natural soil on the Aran Islands (second and third pictures). To raise crops, sand and seaweed was hauled up from beaches and spread atop the rock that forms most of the ground surface. Generations have done this to create usable soil.
