OK Racer, how do you know? :-)

(My uncle used to have hand-crank tractor when I was a kid. I seem to remember they weren't easy to start on a cold morning.)

I have had to hand crank old tractors. Fortunately smaller ones, like a Farmall Cub, but still, it will make scrawny arms buff in a hurry.

Thanks Dave. We weren't at any risk, but Di's family come from Bunyip which was threatened. It got to within a couple of kms of her brother's place and her mum was evacuated with the other residents of the aged care home. But everyone's OK, the aged care residents are back, and there's been a decent soaking of rain today. But many people have lost homes, farms and animals.

Sounds like California.

After all those years of rumors that it was going to fall into the Pacific in a massive earthquake now it looks like it will simply burn away to nothing.

Bottomland field along the upper Spoon River, in Knox County, Illinois. From the look of the stubble, it grew soybeans last year. Too early to plant right now, and probably too wet as well.

That is certainly a typical California agricultural field, although coastal, not inland. The Central Valley has mile after mile of vege growing fields like that, and also, last time I was there, a dreadful lot of plastic bag trash along the roads.

Yes, years ago we lived in the Fresno/Visalia area of central Calif, with those endless farms along Hwy 99. Driving to Fresno we would pass by the little town of Selma, "the raisin capital of the world!"

And how about Gilroy, CA? All the meat is spiced and not a vampire to be found.
