Looks like rape.

This is a prosperous-looking farm in Iceland. Notice the huge number of plastic-wrapped bales, some white, some green. Many farms here are very isolated, more so in winter, so they have their own family chapel as a detached building. There's a walk-in greenhouse this side of the chapel.

Yep.
That's what my mum's family used to call it when she was a kid.

"Canola was bred from rapeseed cultivars of B. napus and B. rapa at the University of Manitoba, Canada, by Keith Downey and Baldur R. Stefansson in the early 1970s, having then a different nutritional profile than present-day oil in addition to much less erucic acid. Canola was originally a trademark name of the Rapeseed Association of Canada, and the name was a condensation of "Can" from Canada and "OLA " meaning "Oil, low acid", but is now a generic term for edible varieties of rapeseed oil in North America and Australia. The change in name serves to distinguish it from natural rapeseed oil, which has much higher erucic acid content." (Only wikipedia - but please don't think less of me for quoting wiki as my only source!!)

While still a cultivar of rape or rapeseed, I haven't heard anyone use those terms for many years.

Lots of shedding in Iceland!! Gotta keep the stock in good health in winter.
Apart from feedlots, the only long term animal shedding in Australia that I know of, are for "super-super fine wool" (my term) sheep. The wool obtains a premium price because of the cleanness & quality.

Thanks for sharing the image - I am not a great traveller and I get a great deal of enjoyment from seeing places to which I will never travel.

Beautiful image! I thought Australia summers were too hot for this kind of crop. When will this be harvested?

Beautiful, thanks for sharing an image from such a far out location. Really shows that beef and dairy cattle make the best use of marginal lands like this.

Also a lot of sheep in Iceland, probably more than any other type of agricultural "produce."

I did a quicky search for Icelandic livestock. Estimates:

sheep, about 450,000
egg-laying chickens about 250,000
cattle about 80,000
mink something around 15~20,000

Only a tiny fraction of Iceland is suitable for any form of agriculture

Hi Sun

Harvested in our area ..Nov - Dec just before the heat really arrives aswell as the other crops peas, barley, wheat etc
Its easy to tell when harvest is finished the local pubs are overflowing with farmers

According to the World Bank, somewhat less than 19% of all the land in Iceland is under some form of agricultural use, including pasturage, cash crops, animal feed, kitchen gardens and a variety of other uses. The details of what is and is not included are lengthy, but the <19% figure is the best estimate. The majority is pasturage, primarily sheep, secondarily cattle.

At the end of November we got some snow on our local (Topatopa) mountains around the 2000 ft. level. This was taken from our mobile home park driveway:
