Today...

Now the rant:

I am not enjoying what's "explored" anymore. I've seen good shots from our colleagues here, and some of my shots that I believe are good enough to fully share to the world (aka - not this one) - these shots are not getting exposure. I am getting about 1 explore per month, roughly, but my issue is that there are so much better shots than the ones actually making it to explore...

My December shot - It was of a fluffy blanket, that I took in a hurry and posted it just because it fit the theme of one of the groups I enjoy and follow - that was a crappy shot, it was intended just to participate in the group. Sure enough that went in. I guess because of traffic/comments? IDK... The excitement of taking a good shot and hoping it be explore has dissipated. Flickr was much more fun before.

Interesting outlook. For me, with 1,900 photos uploaded to Flickr and not one explored, I can only assume that it's because I don't take photos deemed interesting in the eyes of the Flickr Explore Algorithm*.

*Which is fine, no beef. But I can understand the frustration if the algorithm seemed to have worked previously and is now more randomised and, as such, selecting 'poorer' photos. That raspberry is excellent though. Lovely warm tones and details up the wazoo!

I've seen your photos over time, and liked a whole bunch of them. I can't believe that the algorithm has not noted your work.

Re the raspberry - thank you - I enjoyed doing that shot and was something with thought (not just a simple point and shot moment)...

Interesting to the Algorithm is not explicitly based on pixel information. Judicious placement into groups, usage of keywords, titles and captions, and genuine engagement lead to an increase in algorithmic interestingness. This post sums up the interestingness equation pretty well (surprisingly less than 300K views).

Going on now, Interestingly this was in the group Flickr Friday, which seems that pics in it get explored often, even though they are usually not that good..

@Weevil If I recall correctly that was a big fat female Steelhead.
