Nice one Weevil. I always find it's worth firing the picture up in flickr and then zooming in to see exactly how well the shot was taken (as PF embedding into a thread won't really do this). Your shot is perfect, nailed the eye magnificently. It looks as tho it might be a little soft in PF but not at all once you expand the image in flickr. Bravo!

Thank you BruceBanner! I took maybe 40 shots total and maybe 20 were good enough... and this was indeed the criteria I was looking for... not often it was looking at me, so it ended up that one was one of the best. The 600mm at its closest focal distance gives impressive bokeh too! I just surpassed the 30K view, this is a personal record on the ones that hit Explore... It made my day

(x-posted in the 300mm and HDTC threads)
Just got this one Explored 2018.03.12 ann ranked on #90...

last Sunday, I took a break and went out with my monster FA*250-600+HDTC+K-1

We are lucky to have a couple that nest in some islands near my home... but I did not knew their exact site until now.

And I was lucky to see them together...

Even if the HDTC is not FF, I had to crop a lot anyways (almost 1:1) and the resolution is still acceptable!

This is how the original RAW file looked like:
(Approx distance:150m / 500 ft)

this kind of cropping is called ... heavy crop! (n.b. this is the one that went on Explore of course!)

Excellent work Weevil, I'd love a stab at editing that.

Hadn't posted a shot in almost two months - I guess Flickr missed me a bit as it put this one on Explore yesterday.

more mysteries of the fickle finger of flickr... I had three hit last night

the first is a complete mystery to me:

the second is a better shot, but still not a great shot:

but the third is a nice shot (but still not the best of the series I took of these blossoms):

(smh)

I like the 2nd shot.
Agree that flickr explore has no logic on how an image is selected for Explore.
I remembered I have a shot of a bird on perch and another shot with the bird flew off and the shot without bird got Explored, it's just some green leaves with shallow depth of field green background and this shot was chosen over the other.
