Crazy?! Did they all stay in?

I once was browsing Explore and saw about 20 entries from the same guy, selfies taken with his smartphone of him and his gf walking down the street, spamming the shutter. Well it looked like every shot he took that evening with that walk with his gf got into Explore lmao. I wonder what happened and whether they stay, get dropped, etc. Photographically they were terrible images, the smartphone must have been a few years old, nothing endearing at all. That was the most shots I seen ever get in though. I've had 3 in but I think 1 was dropped so I'm curious if all 5 are staying.

I do think Smug is doing something with Explore, I usually never get a bordered watermark images staying in, but recently more have been picked up and are staying;

Interesting that I only see this thread now but its been around since 2012
I guess I spend too much time making snide remarks on "Why I won't buy a K1 threads"

I seldom get Explored.
In fact, I got more with my Sony A7 than my Pentax cameras.
Why?

I think it boils down to :
1. Audience size and in some ways brand loyalty (eg. Sony is bigger)
2. Friends (real ones who are willing to click that "like" button; so John_Dole who follows you but you never interact with will have a less chance to click than Mary_Jane who you often message with; once it gets enough within an amount of time, the flickr algo will take notice)

So I finally found a real life Flickr oddity, the second time I have found such a person (the first one I lost). This guy this morning went and faved a heap of my shots;

? Gareth Trefor Llompart | Flickr

So when that happens I check out their work. Some nice stuff in his photostream. So then I start looking at the view and fav count of his shots, and here's where it gets interesting and mimics one other Flickr user I once found. Every shot (and I mean every shot no matter good or bad) has a very high view and fav count as well as comments. I can understand some of his work having a high view and fav count... but EVERY SHOT?

Like this for example;

6k views and 824 faves and 16 comments.

Or how about this one, 21k views, 1.4k favs, 21 comments, what a masterpiece!

29k views, 1.3k favs, 25 comments

Don't get me wrong, there is some lovely work in his photostream, I just don't quite understand the attention he is getting. There was one other account I found like this, it was all landscape work and even higher view and fav counts.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Plenty of people use or abuse Flickr to get stats like this. Possibly by a combination of the kind of attention-getting he gave you by faving a bunch of your images, possibly done by a bot, and then by culling any images that don't get lots of faves in return. "Social courtesy" return faves are just an instinct for many, so it works. This ain't YouTube, one don't get paid for having lots of viewers and likes, so I fail to see the point. I use Flickr to discover and follow interesting work.

The Q I have is - does he get explored everyday bc of this?

I wouldn't waste my own time like this, I like when my shots get explored but it is not the reason for my flickr use....

I don't think so, or he's not accepting the invite to the In Explore group?

It's not about wasting time or whatever, just about proof of a bs side of flickr (like Instagram), I wonder if its a paid for service or something to help you appear more important than you really are and paying for likes/subscribers etc.

Flickr is technically social media, so yes, people will abuse.

Funny I signed up to instagram and flickr at the same time, but never really went into instagram after learning what it was all about (a friend told me - she never heard of flickr so I took it as a good sign).

Due to being somewhat professional and seeking paid work, I use Instagram, Flickr and Facebook. Facebook gets me the most work, Flickr for sharing images with client, Instagram just to be seemingly part of the 'scene' (it's somewhat expected from some clients for you to have Insta, and even 'flick' some 'live shots' (SOOCs) of the day as it unfolds..
