wrong different with the algorithm.
It got worked over in the fall with more "human" engagement, and a stated goal to increase the variety of photographers showcased. I had 8 images hit explore last year, spaced out pretty evenly. I posted only 125 images - I'm normally much more prolific, with the previous year posting closer to 500 images. In 2019 I had 41 images hit Explore.
I was posting some pretty weird stuff too... some samples to illustrate what interesting was in 2019. Of note, I rarely posted my images to more than 4 or 5 groups, and the only links I might have to the images would have come from this board (Daily In Challenge or Single In Challenge).
Not only was that weird stuff getting Explored, one of the images is my second most viewed on Flickr... go figure... Just nonsense, and demonstrative of why you shouldn't care.
Fourth most faved ever...

A little more on the Flickr Explore. I had complained about the grotesque and violent "secondlife" images that had hit explore. Of note was an S&M image with a very realistic depiction of violence against women. It had made it through Flickr Explore and ended up on my Chrome Flickr Widget (its a cool widget posting beautiful photos on new tabs as you open them).
This is the response I got from the Flickr Hero at the time (Jan 2020)
Quote: Hi Matt,
Thanks for contacting Flickr! My name is Nekei and I am glad to help.
I understand your concern with our curation process with Second Life content. While this is currently being reviewed, I can definitely understand the desire to see urgency around this matter. At this time I went ahead and forwarded your suggestion on to our Product Development team for consideration as a potential feature to review before a future update.
While I do not have a time frame for if/when this would be put into effect, they are now aware that this is something that people on Flickr would like to see acknowledge.
If you should have any further questions or concerns, or even suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, as we are always happy to help.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
Cheerfully,
Nekei
