This one was Explored today. Ranked #91 Chauve-souris au vol / Bat in flight Possibly: Grande Chauve-souris brune / Big Brown Bat [Eptesicus fuscus] Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, CANADA 2021.10.12 ------------------ Sometimes this summer, a fellow bird photographer sent his FB contacts a challenge to catch bats in flight. This evening, I saw one bat flying around the house, and I recalled the challenge. By the way, we don't see them very often at this time of the year, they are about to migrate or hibernate for the entire winter. I grabbed my camera and decided to take the challenge. Lens aperture almost wide-open, boosted the ISOs, tried to keep a minimal speed and... let's go! This bat was flying on the other side of the street, so the photo was significantly cropped (~50%; original 6192x4128 reduced to 3096 x 2064 pixels). Applied PP treatements in NR and sharpness. I'd say it is best to sacrifice the iso over the shutter speed for that... that's probably why you got them look like streaks... Before I started, I figured that I shouln'd get much lower that the know rule for shutter speed vs focal lengh. So with the DA*300mm, under aps-c, that makes 300 x1.5 crop factor = 1/450 sec minimal, so i used 1/500 sec. I can't recal if I used SR or not though... I think I simply disabled it (I would have to check that image with the pentax PDCU SW because Lr doesn't provide that exif info unfortunately). | |
