Where did you make the top image? That's a great set of cascades.

The top photo is Lower Lewis Falls in the Gifford Pinchot NF of S. Washington. It is one of my favorite photos and waterfalls in the NW. I was lucky for this shot as the log seemed to be placed there by a photographer giving the image some character. Last time I made the trip up, there was a lot more logs/debris that took away from the falls a bit. Just depends how high the river gets during the rainy season I guess

I always find thats the biggest problem in most cases, is finding a spot with the best angle and the least amount of debris in the way.. sometimes I wish I had a saw.

It's not a competition, and as pointed out above , that's a unique perspective. A shot like that will give people ideas they can try out, next time they're near moving water.

I can't remember if this is from the bottom of the falls or from oxtongue rapids, but both places are well worth the visit.

I had a few hairy situations try to move a log/debris Sometimes it's just not doable

I am a native Minnesotan, and have photographed Minnehaha a few times but never in the winter....maybe next year for Xmas if it's colder than it was this year. The falls out here in the NW don't freeze themselves, but if it dips below freezing for a few days, then spray covers everything in about an inch of ice. It's crazy to see, entire trees/bridges/photographers encased in ice.
