moving waters

in the Black Sand Basin, Yellowstone National Park

first:

1 - vertical - geyser and steam

2 - horizontal - stream and overflow from hot springs (in the foreground )

2nd:

1 geyser/hot spring in the back ground [ vertical ]

2 hot water entering the cold stream [ horizontal ]

note the discoloration, minerals from hot spring ??? type of rock ???

Some of the discoloration is caused by bacterial mats of types variously called "thermophiles" or even "extremophiles." The existence of organisms that can withstand, actually thrive under conditions that would kill humans has given hope to life-on-other-planets enthusiasts. However, it is unclear whether these organisms originated in these extreme conditions (=they represent survivors of the very earliest forms of life on Earth) or whether life originated in what we would regard as more equable habitats then some of them gradually adapted to the extreme conditions. Personally, I favor the latter.

I don't think I've posted this one here yet. I apologize if I have.

Indoor falls, Las Vegas.

Pentax MX, Sigma 18mm ultrawide rectilinear, tripod. 1/2 or 1/4 sec (forget) f/22 IIRC.

That looks a lot like the Upper Falls in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio.

Artificial falls, but still ... Handheld and on the fly, could not get any "bridal veil" effect here.
