Nice subject.... my suggestion would be (not that I'm an expert) to try and reduce the halo effect around the trees. Not easy to do HDR when you have a bright sky in sharp contrast with a dark area like the trees. What has worked best for me though is, if you are taking a picture with bright sky which always seems to create a strong halo, to take 5 exposures for your HDR, and then when you've completed the HDR mask out the sky and replace it with the best sky of the 5 original pictures (or a stock sky). This is what I did in my photo above from Big Sur - just wiped out a boring sky and masked in something better. I have no qualms about cheating. :-)

Thanks! I'll have to give that a try sometime. I don't think I have the patience to try that with all the tree branches though!

Actually it's easier than you think. You just set colors you want to keep, and colors you want to erase, and brush over it. I use OnOne Perfect Mask, works pretty well! Manually though it would be impossible.
