A horse called Tonemapped!

Not sure if anyone else will find this funny but it made me smile. I got my 1st DSLR this year and have been messing about with it. I took my very 1st "action shots" a few weeks ago at a local horse show . They weren't fantastic but I tonemapped them in Photomatix and decided to chance my arm and send them to my local paper to see if they were of any interest. They confirmed receipt but nothing happened and I assumed that was that. My sister in law then texted me this evening to congratulate me on my 3 pictures in this weeks edition of the paper! I was really chuffed but was a bit surprised because I didn't provide any details when I sent the photos in as I really didn't know which horse was which or who the riders were and I thought the paper would have wanted to know . I needn't have worried though , they obviously applied a bit of creative thought by looking at the file names of each photo for clues. Which is why one one poor horse is now lumbered with the name "Tonemapped"!

Another oldie cobbled from a bunch of JPGs.

I cropped it thin to get rid of a big ol' distracting fence from the foreground.

Loved that second one, especially the look of the texture of the smoke.

Thanks GeoJerry. I used Photomatix for the tone mapping and Photoshop for the rest. You might this interesting as well:

It is a great example why I love the Pentax K-5. I shot the original image 1 full f-stop under exposures and was able to pull out a lot of detail in all the shadows. I underexposed to nail the clouds just right. Shot this at ISO 80 as well using the DA* 16-50mm.
