Two downers I've discovered this month: it's bloody noisy hunting for focus - hopeless for scatty birds fairly close; and yes, it hunts for focus at times in seemingly the most illogical way - very frustrating when you've got a a shortlived scene/subject to capture.
That's why I never recommmend the DA L 55-300mm. Quick-Shift benefits this lens more than any other IME.

If you start with a focal distance beyond your target, you will have fewer episodes of hunting. The lens invariably starts to focus inward first, so if your target is beyond the start point, you're on your way to minimum focus and back. I also find that tje 55-300 frequently misses the target when racking from close focus to far, so now you're likely going infinity, then back to the target.

Rain, rain, rain here today. I might not get a Day 28 if this keeps up. Still have a couple of hours daylight so I'll have to wait and see.

I'm breaking the rules the last few days of May... I am going to post my shots next week... but I will be shooting my one per day with the F 28mm f2.8 on film - I couldn't do a whole month on film, but a few days at the end might be fun. The lens is mounted on my K1000 - to see what I can see, and show what a crime it is to shoot Film era lenses on APS-C

Only a few shots left in the month so I thought I would post up my thoughts about my lens of the month - the DA 10-17mm fisheye. Simply it is one of the best lenses I have and it is the most fun to use. I could quite easily keep on using it for another month. This is the second time to use it in a Challenge and I think I used it more at 10mm than last time. I also noticed more purple fringing but that is easily fixed in Lightroom.

Talking of next month is anyone up for another month? If there is any interest I don't mind starting a new thread

@Matt good luck with the film!

Patrick

Already thinking of next month.. should I join or not..

I have 3 lenses which I have recently acquired, and are begging for a test:
1. Vivitar Series 1 55mm f1.2
2. DA 15mm
3. Tamron 28-75mm

Also, my Fuji X10 has also been with me for several months, but I haven't used it seriously enough yet, only used it when I attended weddings and other events.

Looking forward to your shots Matt. I myself have got 2 film cameras that have been languishing for years, a vivitar 8000 which is a K1000 clone and the ZX-5N. I really should get rid of the ZX, but I want to keep the vivitar, it's such a simple camera to use.

I'm definitely up for another month. Even figured out what I'll use. Something completely different. Instead of a medium range "A" zoom. I've decided to go with a wide angle FA prime, the FA 20mm f/2.8. I really like the lens and it doesn't get enough use.

Not sure about June yet. I have taken on two more moderator jobs, and am not sure I'll have the time. Will think about it for the next few days, and if I do, it'll be the 70-300mm again. It's birding season here.

Hello there... Life's pretty busy at the moment (but I still hope to catch up with some commenting) and I think I should focus on fitness and/or some work-related learning (node.js on heroku) in the next couple of months so I'm out for now!

M 85mm f2.. What can I say? It's definitely a keeper! There's a lot of crossover between this and what I normally use my M 50 f1.4 for, but unlike the 50 there's no redundancy when carried with my DA 40 so it's likely to come with me far more often. (10-20, 40, M85, M200 is a rather good travel set especially as the M200 is cheap and can survive being in checked baggage.)

I have no complaints about the Vivitar 28/2, other than that wide open it is difficult for me to focus (liveview really helps).
I've decided to sell it when the month is over, I already have a Sigma 30/1.4 that is a keeper.
I'm still intent on drastic downsizing.

June? I will decide in a day or two, but it's looking unlikely, it's flu season here, and I'm already working 50+ hours each week, and I have some continuing medical education to complete....

Well, I already knew I really liked the A 35-105. But I'm more convinced than ever. If it were a stop faster, a bit lighter and WR it would be perfect! Not bad for a 25 yr old lens!

Back again and I will try to do another Month.

So far, the Jupiter 37A is a very nice lens. It has nearly no CA`s has a good contrast even against Light for its age. Wit Post came a Tair 11A in the same focal range but a Bit faster. Because of the size and weight the Tair is harder to cary by far.
Sometimes it dusturbed me that the Jupiter has its minimum focal range at 1,2m, a bit closer would be nice.
Used at F3,5 it is still easy to nail focus, the K-5 Focal affirmation was always right too. It is nice to handle.
What I dont like is that it is only M42, If you have to change the lens sometimes it is very slow to screw it. Maybe I should thing about an permanent adaptation, because it is a keeper for sure. Might be not the best 135mm on this world, but if you count durability, weight, feel, use, size and results it is clearly a kind of champion.

Some really wonderful photos this month (I have looked at them all, but not managed to comment as much as I wanted to due to sickness and being very busy at work).
Congrats to all competitors.

Hi everyone. I'm on the road at present, but endeavouring to keep up with picture postings and comments. I will finish the month; it's just a bit awkward getting free time on-line.
