Women who made these single-hide coats had a sort of catalogue of basic small decorative designs, similar to the basic design elements of some quilts, but they could and did combine several of these small elements in different arrangements such that the overall decoration on every garment is unique.

Here's the colorful Ndebele attire. Usually the neck rings, each one represents an additional year of life, and I have seen some woman with a lot of those rings, and stretched necks. The Ndebele are by far the most colorful of our indigenous tribes. Elsewhere in Africa, there are others that will surpass them. And the colors are not confined to the clothes, their houses and huts are painted thus too!


We may as well go with the boring western garments-jeans, t-shirts, shorts etc next.
