No, the last train down there was in 1999, a special tour. There were regular services until 1987 when the ferries moved to Poole Harbour instead. Parked cars obsructing the train route were always a problem despite all the painted yellow hatching on the road.
Wow!, I had no idea they ran there until that date.

Dramatic spot. I've driven much, probably all of Route 1 several times, especially north near Monterey. Have you been to San Simeon? Cozy place.

I've not visited the town. I've only seen Hearst Castle from the highway, and did some deep sea fishing off the coast years ago. There's a lot of sightseeing I want to do when I get the chance.

Hearst Castle is quite a thing. The pier near the entry is worth a little time. What blew my mind = at the time Hearst built and lived at the castle, everything inch of ground you could see from the highest level belonged to him. It's a really vast area. IMHO No one is so valuable that they deserve to have so much more wealth than the average person.

The Alberdaweg, near Appingedam. This is one of these old roads that follows a small meandering river. Taken just before the blue hour.

Indeed, I wouldn't want to drive there but it is a lovely image.

More of a plaza than a road, but might be acceptable on this thread. If not, too late.
