Intriguing old building, Walt. Is it still a bank, as the window indicates?

No. Several different banks occupied the building when it was relatively new (=later 1800's). Now it's a an Oriental restaurant, Japanese cuisine I think. Downtown Belfast ME is dominated by buildings from the 19th century. There's an "Opera House" that originally had offices and stores on the first floor and a large performance space on the upper floor that was THE entertainment center of the city for many years. Still stores/offices at street level and an entry labeled Opera House, but I'm not sure if the theater is still used for performance.

Thanks Walt. Having lived mostly in the Southwest and West US, I don't get to see a lot of old buildings such as this. I find them fascinating!

On the dusty trail at nearby Hill Canyon.

This building sitting at the busiest intersection in Belfast ME is newer than the old bank building a few posts above. It's late 19th century and very "Victorian" with abundant exterior embellishments. The primary merchant entered at the corner of the building is a toy store, with many toys that parents will buy and promise to let their children have when they're old enough. There was heavy overcast most of the time we were in Belfast, so the lighting here and for almost all other images taken this day is very dull.

This "street" is more to my liking than the one above - a footpath through a tidal marsh

I prefer that kind of light because colours are richer, unlike the burned out brightness and harsh shadow I often faced in Australia, especially in summer.

View down Main St of Belfast ME with the exuberant Victorian building across the intersection..The three brick buildings on the near side of the intersection as well as the first four past the grand Victorian edifice are 19th century The first building on the near side of the intersection has a pale stone plaque between the second and third story window level that's dated 1885.

Johnson Mesa has a scenic short-cut we take to get to Colorado. The plateau's elevation ranges from 8,000 - 8,500'. There are no permanent residents on the mesa, but ranchers do bring their cattle up to graze during the summer months. Winters can be brutally cold and windy.

The cloud build-up is from uplift of warmer air along the eastern front range of the Rockies.

My intent was to post this immediately after your urban shot, but Paul beat me to it...
