The long and winding road...footpath at the Ventura Botanical Gardens. Some sections are under construction.

Long stretches of the road to the summit of Haleakala (Maui) are open range or open grazing land, cattle guards and signs give plenty of warning, but sometimes a cow is just around a blind hairpin turn. Some roads on Maui, especially those out to the eastern and western tips of the island, were surely designed by sadistic driving instructors.

A driveway rather than a public road, but consistent with other images on this thread.

This once was the main - correct that the ONLY road that lead to the next place on Maui. A new larger road was built to the right of the trees, parallel to this one for many miles so this one is strictly for local traffic now, with speed bumps every every hundred feet (~30 meters) or less. All the buildings are to the left in this view, as are the beach & ocean within easy walking distance where a path allows access between the privately owned plots.

There are many streets posted on this thread that I'd sooner drive along than this one in the area pictured.

I appreciate your remarks, HoutHans. This time of year meandering midst the autumnal foliage within the Sneffels Wilderness region of SW Colorado cannot be beat for its majestic beauty.

thank you...

for whatever reason, in rural Missouri minor roads are given alphabetical names, like M or W or FF....

Part of the southern stretch of the road that loops around the eastern tip of Maui. This area is in the rain shadow of Haleakala so it is dry to the point of being desert-like, not what you'd expect to find on Hawaii.
