Outside the city so there are no white pavers to mark pedestrian areas. What's interesting here is the steam coming from very active thermal hot springs on the right side of the road - - scalding hot! It indicates really hot rock just below the surface. Then there are all the houses right across the street. I'd be very uneasy living so close to a potentially active volcanic spot.

A road I think I'll avoid. Nice photo! Thanks for letting me appreciate it from my safe perch.
It's a scenic transit if you drive it right. There are, however, a few memorials to those who didn't yield...

Yeah, but I'm prone to white-knuckle fever. All I'd see would be that yellow line.

Yet another street & sidewalk in the Azores. This sidewalk was designed to help drunks find their way home.

12 is a wonderful road.
Looks awesome to me.

I like twisty mountainous roads.

This street has been entirely turned over to pedestrians.

How do the merchants get deliveries? Are there alleys?

I think delivery vehicles have special permits and are only allowed into these streets at particular times. They are also limited in size. As you can see, there is no wasted space between buildings, and SFAIK, they are backed by buildings that have a front on any parallel street.

I took this on the fly in the car dodging black ice one morning. I was in a hurry to get to my sunrise spot but was already too late. Virginia mountains,

Another morning on the same road, icy conditions and low sun can make my morning commute more interesting on occasion.

That's one of the straighter sections btw. [COLOR="Silver"]

Some of our back roads are psychedelic. This one decided to disappear due to the full moon.

Soybean sunrise

I spotted this field on a side road along my regular commute and stalked it for months before finally just deciding to give it a try. Late for work(as usual when I have my camera) and trying not to get run over on the busy bypass road this is attached to, I used my car for support until I decided to live and moved behind it.

Near Château Morrisette on a side road near Blue Ridge Parkway as it passes through Floyd co. VA. I couldn't resist actually driving back up this connector road to get this unique view. I'm never quite happy with the lighting on this, but it was a bright late summer day and this is what that looks like. You can see the grass panting in the heat.
