A grand total of 30cm ....so, 12 inches?

Looks like more than that.

We had 18" and it didn't look that bad.

Hmm not that bad, seems more impressive honestly. Still, it is a lot.
Well, that was what came straight down; the wind was crazy so the drifting was much higher. The street definitely had more that a foot...as you can see ;-)

As mentioned somewhere else, we had ferocious winds while the snow was coming down so of course, in the tight neighbourhood streets, the snow accumulated and drifted mostly into the road. Some places it was drifted up to two feet and maybe more. When I drove around the neighbourhood in the Forester, at times I was pushing snow with the bumper. Yeeha!

Speaking of snow storms, it's worth reading the history of the famous blizzard of March 1888. New York City got an official 22 inches of snow, but winds up to 85 mph whipped drifts up to 12 feet high in the streets. The heaviest snow fell in upstate New York, with the maximum official measurement at 58 inches and the highest snow drift at 52 feet. The number of deaths was about 400.

Yup, Montreal got dumped on back in '71 and I remember it well...I think we were off school for three days! The drifts in the back yard were so high there were almost touching the telephone wires. It was quite something.....many snowforts and tunnels were built in those three days.

In 2004 a major snow storm dumped 95 cm or 37" of snow on Halifax between Feb 17th & Feb 20th and was dubbed "White Juan"
I was in the Dominican Republic at the time arriving just after the storm passed and was greeted with my car buried in the Airport parking lot

I posted a slightly different image of this same street a short time ago. This one places more emphasis on the parked cars, especially the Porsche Carrera in the foreground.

For many years the most common roadside trash here was empty beer and liquor containers. Following passage of the "Bottle Bill" there was a huge reduction in roadside litter of all kinds as not only were beverage containers kept for the refund and collected by down-and-out walkers for the cash, but also the entire throw-out-the-car-window culture was dramatically reduced. However there is still junk that is tossed, and without doing a tally, I suspect that various McD's single-use items are now most common.

Johnson was far from my favorite president, but the civil rights act and the beautification of our roadsides make up for many sins.

Two pedestrian-only streets that vehicles do use under some circumstances.

I was thinking of this thread when I took this, so it really is an inspiration. Anthony Road in the Murchison region of Western Tasmania. K-S2 + DA 18-135 (X-posted from the 18-135 thread)
