They're enforcing the red bus lane though - I had a colleague collect many fines from taking the shortcut on the bus lane (there's cameras). Other than this, it is a free for all. These people never heard of not blocking the box... that's a daily headache.
If you drive enough, as with flying enough, you'll have stories to tell. One of the spookiest incidents when I was student at Columbia on Manhattan: I was driving eastbound with some friends across 125th street (two traffic lanes each direction plus curbside parking) heading out of the city. In the oncoming side, the entire parking lane along the curb was filled, with double parked cars scattered along in the first travel lane, but the outermost travel lane was clear. Then someone passing a double parked car stopped, threw open the driver's door and ran to chat with someone he knew who was walking on the sidewalk. Meantime there was city bus oncoming behind that car, which to get around the double-double parked (or stopped) cars, did not hesitate to cross the double yellow line into my lane, then accelerated hard as the bus could manage directly toward me. BRAKES!

Ohh boy, I reckon bus drivers in the city never change - it is not unusual to see them departing a bus stop without waiting for the flow of traffic to stop (ie a red light) - they just bulldoze their way back into the lane from the bus stop...and sopmetimes this is a double-length bus which must use both lanes of traffic to get out of the bus stop...

You should drive again 125th street - they now also have dedicated bus lanes. it is one car lane east and one west - it aliviates bus congestion, but to pass a light takes about 3 attempts. I'd shoot some shots but I avoid 125th like the plague. I have family in East Harlem, and coming from Queens or the Bronx I sometimes end up in Lexington ave to go downtown - I kid you not I sometimes just close my eyes while driving cross 125th, and into 124th. There is a huge methadone clinic in 124th and Lex; the crowd is interesting for lack of a better word... And the smell... the smell...

Traffic jam on the exit road from the Future Of Flight parking lot. These people had gathered to see the inaugural flight of the Boeing 777X, which was postponed for heavy winds.
