Beautiful image, and I will insert a comment I've made a couple of times. What impresses me about such places is the quantity of rock that is no longer there.

As a geologist, earth's history has always fascinated me, especially the erosional processes that have occurred throughout the Colorado Plateau. For the human lifespan it's hard to grasp the age of the earth and the tectonic forces that have taken place over the last 3.6 billion years or so with the deposition of thousands of feet of sediment over millions of years only to be carved away over eons, as you have pointed out.

Street Scene -- Byward Market, Ottawa

How many signs, banners, and clutter can fill a city block?

Here's a street scene of Ottawa's Byward Market, a central area of the downtown district. Not one of the most photogenic views, but there you go.

The circular stone structure with the tiered copper roof in the background is the Library of Parliament, the only part of the original Parliament Centre Block to have survived a devastating fire in 1916. The quick-thinking library clerk shut the iron doors before fire could spread into the grand library.

The busiest intersection in town, a major east-west state route at the left meets a major north-south state route at the right. There should be a traffic light backup on one or the other at this hour.
