The people walking is easy because that is a busy crosswalk at the crest of the hill, BUT the cable car is a whole different beast. If you go too early (when there's no deadly traffic coming at you), the cable cars are not running. I ended up getting the transit app on my phone which showed in real time when a cable car was about to come up the back side of the hill, and then timed the crosswalk button in my own intersection to favor me being in the middle of the street at the right moment. With 20-30 attempts, i got 2 good ones.
