PP Challenge #91

Welcome to the Post Processing Challenge #91.

Thanks to Ash for hosting last week's challenge.

For this challenge I thought I'd try something I think is different. For the last few years I've shot almost exclusively in bracketed sets and do most of my PP as HDR. So I'm giving you a 3 shot +2, 0, -2 EV spread to work with. You can do an HDR if you want, or just use one of the exposures to work your magic.

The shot was taken at the mission San Juan Capistrano in California. It's one of my favorite places to shoot when I get a new camera. This is from my then new K-01. I basically like this shot, but it's lacks something and I could just never get it to work in my usual flow. I'd like to see what everyone else comes up with. Hopefully everyone enjoys it!

This challenge will last until Midnight, March 9, 2013 (US Pacific Time).

The winner of this challenge becomes the host of the next one.

RAW
Challenge#91+2.dng
Challenge#91+0.dng
Challenge#91-2.dng

The exposure values are part of the file name (+2=+2EV, +0=Indicated Exposure, -2=-2EV)

Please note, if you're going to do an HDR, these were shot hand held. If your software is not good at aligning images you probably want to just do a process the 0EV shot. Also, the people in the background move .

The picture below is the straight out of the camera 0EV exposure.

Here's my entry. I used both Lightroom and Paint.NET again. I only used the -2 EV image mainly because I didn't want to bother with the others.

Lightoom: Added some fill light and brightness and exported to JPG.
Paint.NET: Fiddled around with the Color Match plug-in again and also did some RGB tweaking. Resized and exported for the web and that's it. I wanted to clone out the people, but my Photoshop skills aren't nearly that good.

love that rendering, patajac! how did you do that? looks like lots of work!

none of my filters seemed to give me anything i liked. *sigh* so here's something a bit more straightforward from me.

just a bit of cloning and some subtle tweaks here and there in adobe photoshop.

Here's an attempt done entirely in Lightroom 4.
I applied Gavin Seim's Soft Platinum filter and OnOne's HSL - Sky 01 filter from their Perfect Presets vol. 1.Then I manually tuned down the whites and the highligts and gave a gentle boost to the shadows. Then I cropped.

Well heck. Your rendition just caused me some work. I've got a spot on the lower right of my sensor. I hadn't seen it until your rendition. It's in the top left corner of the picture. Just once I'd like my sensors to stay clean for more than a couple weeks

I like your rendition BTW. Did you use all 3 exposures?.

Nice stuff so far. Looks like most people like a little (lot?) tighter crop. Keep 'em coming!

thnx wolfie

not much work really, did it from my couch with a remote :-D
imported the files into LR and only did some sharpening, i found the composition spot on
opened in PS as layers and edited with nik HDR efex (used a preset i liked and did some minor tweaks, warm goldish hdr)
than back in PS i decided its looking to hipster for the subject so it got some nik Color efex, again clicking through until i saw something i liked (old and grainy i guess it was)

all the best

Hey hey hey. It was hard work, determination, blood, sweat and tears. And a crop.... Yeah you're right. It was probably the crop .
