Challenge #92

Welcome all to the Post Processing Challenge #92!

Many thanks, post_eos, for hosting last weeks challenge.

The baton is passed to me since last weeks winner wasn`t able to host this.
I did some digging in the archives and found something that was not a real keeper. Sometimes I preserve certain imagimes just to work on them later or just play with it ijn PP. This is somewhat underexposed and composition isn`t the best. But it also didn`t end up in the trashcan right away because it has something I like but haven`t been able to extract. So I like you to get wild, anything goes.

This challenge will run until 19:00 PM CET, March 18th, 2013

The winner of this challenge becomes the host of the next one. Don't forget to have fun and I do look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Please, feel free to share your editing process, hints or ideas.

Here are the files:

Have fun, good luck and make my job as difficult as possible
Grtz Jacco.

Here's a try. I'm not happy with the blown out sky but I can't find any detail to grab. I may try something on a second attempt to fix the sky.
For this one I...

  • Made a faux bracket set of -2,0,+2 from the DNG in ACR
  • Pulled the set into Machinery and did my basic HDR setup
  • Brought it back to Photoshop
  • Did some work with Topaz Adjust
  • Crop
  • Increased the exposure for everything but the sky
  • Basic sharpening
  • Noise reduction on the dark parts of the shack. It was really noisy in the shadows in there.
  • Changed to LAB and increased the saturation using curves on the A and B channels.
  • Back to RGB and applied a warming filter at 21% opacity.
  • One final minor curve adjustment to balance things a little better
This one was challenging. Thanks for picking it!

Yes, it was a challenging scene. Very demanding for my old K20d.

I decided to add a stronger visual focal point to the image.

I wanted to use the Loch Ness Monster but he was booked solid until after the challenge closes.

I cropped, adjusted the curves a tiny bit added a blue filter and then made hdr photorealistic low contrast on photoshop. I was going for a vintage travel postcard look

Working in Lightroom 4, I cropped pretty much along the same lines as lgt525. But I used onOne's HSL Blue Skies 3 setting and then the onOne Gritty Punch setting. The frame was added in PSP X5.

Edit to change frame 3/16/13.

DNG file processed in Aperture, cropped, flipped and brightened. Further processing in Snapseed, increased detail, localized adjustments to brightness and contrast and the application of a vintage filter and frame.
