Love the first image, naturally as it's akin to some that I take. Back-lit Autumn leaves can be quite magical.

Going back to find something else I came across this foggy woodland scene taken back in December, I do miss this kind of weather over summer.
Taken on the GRII whilst a 20 minute pinhole exposure was ticking away.

Painting tree trunks isn't as pop'lar as it used to be.

Yes, I recall you mentioning this previously. I've heard these trees were originally imported to Calif. (from Australia) to act as windbreaks for the railroads. They've certainly taken hold out here, with some unfortunate side effects. Maybe @rayallen can chime in on this.

Judging by the size of those trunks they are very mature trees. Eucalyptus gums are very thirsty trees and will suck up water from the surrounding area. If it is somewhat dry that area will become even drier. That is exactly what you are seeing there. I have seen that many times.
