Originally posted by jquill That's a nice park with trails that will get you well into the forest of cacti. Some years ago hikers were being assaulted by Africanized bees, and the park had to be closed. I'm assuming the bees have been eradicated, allowing hikers back in to the park.
This photo I scanned from the March 2021 issue of
Arizona Highways Magazine (photo credit: Paul Gill). I read that saguaros don't start producing side limbs until after about 10 years. In this photo, frost damage has caused the limb joints to weaken causing the arms to droop.
