Yes, quite possible, Jersey... there are some orange-flowered Tecomas, although most of them are yellow. Good eye!

I think Jersey nailed it (thanks!). I had no idea there are orange Tecomas, learn something new every day!

This trunk is not as peculiar as the one in the image above. It's a product of two cuttings grafted onto a stump.

Indeed, and then there is Clusia rosea, "autograph tree", which has very thick, almost succulent leaves... if you scratch the surface, it forms a permanent scar on the leaf. So people do it, carve their initials (or whatever) on the leaves.

There's a lot of ice action along the shore in winter and the tree looks pretty precarious, so it's good to see it leaf out again in the spring.
