I don't think I've posted these here yet, taken in northern BC after a huge fire went through the area this summer.
forest fires are terrible... but at least not the whole forest burned to the ground

Pink shower tree - Cassia grandis. We saw a number of these in their full glory on Hawaii. The first encounter was almost breathtaking, and this image does not the tree justice. They are in the same genus as a Golden Rain Tree which is more familiar to me.

Gorgeous! There are a lot of Cassias, some of them are blow-your-mind stunning when they flower. "Apple blossom" cassia (C. javanica) is one such, incredible pink and white flowers. Earlier in the year I posted a close-up of the flowers of C. x nealiae, which is a natural hybrid between C. fistula (golden shower) and C. javanica. Amazing golden-salmon flowers.

Four views of a forest on Molokai that seemed to me totally out of place. It does not look at all tropical. The trees seem to be conifers with extremely long needles. similar to Casuarina, but that plant should not be in Hawaii. The forest floor is much like some evergreen forests = almost totally devoid of undergrowth vegetation and blanketed with needles that are very slow to decay.

Confirmed, this is Casuarina equisetifolia Native to Australia India, some western Pacific Islands, but introduced to Hawaii, Florida and some areas in the interior western USA. It is regarded as a pest and dangerous as it has expanded its range rapidly at the expense of native plants.
