A couple I know who have been very longtime friends have a maple tree in their yard that has several different varieties of Japanese Maple growing from a common root and trunk. It is quite old, and drops copious seeds every year. They have started numerous seedlings and gave me one last year.When leaves first emerge, this tree has bright green leaves with red around the edges. As they mature the red edges go away.

There's one endangered species in the area (although I don't see them in the shots above) called Slender Tree-fern (Cyathea Cunninghamii) which can grow to 20 metres (about 60 feet). Here's an example. It's a very elegant fern too. (K-S2 + DA 18-135)
