Two Ricoh GXR shots from Zoar Valley, NY, a special place featuring a deep canyon cut by the Cattaraugus River and old-growth forests spared the axe due to the rugged terrain.

Soaring Tuliptrees (Liriodendron tulipifera), GXR A12 50mm module

Young American Chestnut (Castanea dentata), GXR S10 24-70mm module with ricoh wide converter

Two views of a specimen planting of a subspecies of Macrophylla columnaris originally endemic to Lord Howe Island. No single main trunk, just multiple small trunks established by down growths from the branches. This growth habit is found in other Ficus species such as the more famous Banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis)

Everything works for my sensibilities in that image = composition, colors, lighting. Wish it were mine.

Thanks for the comment Walt.

It was difficult to get a decent shot, a the dunes were quite busy that morning. Add to that the myriad footprints of the human trespassers on the otherwise pristine desert floor, and my reluctance to venture too far into the desert for a better opportunity.

But yes, I was quite satisfied with the result.

While waiting for a train to go through the Tehachapi Loop, I wandered around in the hills a bit, trying to make some decent images.

A colorful tree contrasting against the darker green of the conifers, at Yosemite.
