As a forester, and tree lover, I thought I'd have found this thread earlier!

In that case, take your time and go back through all 250+ pages of this thread. Not every image is great, but there are many magnificent trees and many wonderful images of pretty common trees. If you love trees, it's worth your time.

Here's another specimen tree in a bot-garden/arboretum. Grown in isolation in such a cultivated setting the trees can take their natural or definitive shape.

I'll also add that when grown as a plantation or avenue, there is a pleasing symmetry to trees. London plane trees are a particular favorite for avenues around here.

I'll try to get back before the end of the day with another example of trees planted fairly closely to create an avenue, creating a mood that invites you to enter and stroll.

As promised, two views of an avenue of trees in an arboretum, done with ginkgos, the tallest specimens of that species I've ever seen. I don't know what the smaller trees are that are providing a dense wall of greenery at ground level. The third image is another path in the arboretum that looks ageless. Located on the Azores.

The Lime Avenue across the park where I live. The origins of this avenue go back to at least 1766 when the park was mapped by Dury and Andrews. I have taken very many photos of this path at different times of year.

Wow, I've never seen such big ginkos before. They must be hundreds of years old!

Now to take you to the other end of the scale, some solitary, twisted old gums, sprinkled with fresh highlights .

This is an unusual tree for this thread, maybe - but although it is ritually sacrifized every year, it's still my favourite tree... and tomorrow we go pick this year's!

Wow, what is that? It looks like ivy or vines all over a dead tree.

It is an old tree to which I emphasized the cracks in the bark through a PP sketch effect. It is not ivy or vines.
