A really old Olive tree. Came across it on a walk in Corfu. I reckon must be high hundreds years old.

It looks as if a tree tried to hide its crown, ostrich-like, underground, then changed its mind and came back up into the sunlight. More likely the tree tipped over because of creep and other mass wasting on that steep, unconsolidated slope, then turned upward again as trees will do.

The critical area that discloses the shape of the tree is to the right where it emerges briefly from the bank then dips down under the pathway. It is in any case a really interesting tree that's been shaped by local geologic processes.
