A Rain Spider?

Taken on holiday in Cape town South Africa some years ago. Sorry it's not very sharp but it is a crop of this spider hanging from the ceiling of my bedroom above my head and my host and I were jostling to get at it. Him with a broom as he said that it was not going to drop on anyone and bite them if he could help it.
No sign of rain and I suspect it crept in while I was sleeping. It was rather big!

I think that is an "orchard spider," inevitably known by other common names. SKA Leucauge venusta or a closely related species. Very widespread but sometimes overlooked because it is fairly small so you have look closely to see all the color.

Looks like a 'Huntsman' spider we get here in Oz. Harmless but large and like a fight if provoked lol!

Nice shots. The black background.. is this due to night time shooting with flash, with the flash not really picking up stuff further behind? It's nice, isolates the subject brilliantly.
