Three images of a tiny spider. The grass seed stalk gives some indication of scale.

I may X-post this one as I'm pleased with how it turned out. It's a big spider, about 1.75 inches (~4cm) across the legs.

This little jumper jumped on me while I was shooting something else. Even on my hand, I really couldn't get good positioning. This is the only shot worth posting. Reversed Cine Yashinon 38mm f1.4 on KP. Field of view is about 14mm wide.

You can see the anchor line behind the abdomen.

This is a pretty big spider, I was on a boardwalk going through a swampy area, so this was as close as I could get. The entire web may have been five or six feet across, between two trees.

That looks like a golden silk spider Trichonephila clavipes. A closely related species that lives on some Caribbean Islands weaves the largest of all orb webs (SFAIK) out of one of strongest known silk strands. The latter were once used to make cross-hair reticles for telescopic surveying instruments and gun-sights.

Thanks for that Info! There were at least four or five giant webs along this bridge I walked over, each with a large spider sitting in the middle. I did assume they were orb weavers with the elongated abdomen, but I didn't even attempt to look it up. The particular place I was at had a lot of ways for insects to die, including these spiders, birds, venus fly traps, pitcher plants, sundew, and my hand slapping mosquitos before I went and got a can of insect repellant.

Glad you liked the image. Cross eyed or not, I'm glad spiders are a lot smaller than humans.

This fellow was there to greet me one morning in the loo.

Fear made me grab a spoon to coax it off the floor so I can release it out the window

A few days later it was back

Big fella, easily fit in the palm of my hand.

Flower Crab Spider (Thomisus daradioides)

This tiny lady, about 10mm across outstretched legs, caught a small hoverfly.

I can hear that hoverfly's last words: "Spiders are a pain in the neck!"
